I WAS 12 YEARS OLD……wow, can't believe it! I wrote a letter to Jack Sandler…I should have been a salesman, and convinced him to buy me a scanner. I would listen to the fire department dispatches and go to the scene of fires and report back. They bought it. That was the start of me working for WQAM. Six months later, at 13, I was in the newsroom writing news. At that time, you could never read the same story twice, so each hour, the story had to be rewritten…I did that for many years. - Charlie Perez |
